The Service Observability group consists of three teams that manage various aspects of bringing end-to-end observability for customer services. From maintaining the high scale distributed systems that generate performance statistics about customer services to building the beautiful user interfaces that bring together all service telemetry signals in one place, the team has a wide scope with multi-faceted challenges.

This is an opportunity to double down on Datadog’s primary competitive advantage: not only do we process mammoth amounts of data about customer infrastructure, we also bring all this telemetry in a “single pane of glass” where customers can see all the information they need about their services in one place. This will require a versatile leader who is: a) technically deep to understand and push forward the distributed systems that process, aggregate, and store the data, b) who is operationally experienced to raise the reliability and cost efficiency bars, and c) who is passionate about building beautiful user experiences that translate mounds of data into a clearly communicated story about the health of customer infrastructure.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture – the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own the vision and execution of the Service Observability teams.
  • Work with your distributed systems team to ensure that:
    • we continue to scale to handle the exponentially growing volumes of customer data,
    • push an ambitious roadmap to make better product trade offs around the cardinality of the metrics
    • we achieve and maintain multiple nines of reliability
  • Build and execute on a vision for presenting a wide variety of telemetry data (including those generated by the statistics stack you’ll own) in a coherent and user friendly way.
  • Drive deep integration amongst the different datadog products through refining the UX, exploring ambitious paths to connect the products through the storage and query layers, and improving the customer’s journey as they navigate from one telemetry signal to the next.
  • You will work with downstream infrastructure and storage teams and upstream product teams to bring the Service Observability vision to life.

Who You Are:

  • You’re adept at motivating people through a combination of clear communication, a track record of successful and rapid execution, and an ambitious vision.
  • You’re passionate about building products you would want to use yourself.
  • You have experience managing operationally heavy teams and you’re willing to share the on-call responsibilities with them.
  • You have experience leading product teams to building beautiful products that customers love.
  • You are passionate about both the product and the technology; obsessed with making customers happy while building the best possible technical stack to serve their needs.
  • You have experience working with product managers and designers to articulate complex technical limitations and tradeoffs, and collaborating with them to envision an ambitious and beautiful product.
  • You have managed multiple teams in the past, including remote or hybrid teams.
  • You’re not afraid to go from a conversation about the garbage collector behavior in Golang to a conversation about the color of a button in the interface.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
