Engage Recruiting is a rapidly growing San Francisco Bay Area-based boutique recruiting firm specializing in early-stage startups.  We are actively recruiting for an HR Director for our San Francisco-based client. This is a leadership role responsible for the entire candidate and employee lifecycle from recruiting, onboarding, talent development, performance management, and succession planning for the team.  The company is currently in stealth mode and making itself more public in a few weeks.   We are excited to share this wonderful opportunity with the right candidate.    Startup experience is required.

About the role:

Our client is looking for an experienced, organized, food-and-environment-loving HR professional with startup experience to help recruit and support our rapidly growing team.

They are headquartered in San Mateo, but this can be a remote role.  The ability to support and work during core hours in pacific standard time is highly desired.

Responsibilities

    • Create and oversee new employee recruitment, on both the operations/marketing and technical/science sides of the business
    • Interview job candidates
    • Onboard new employees and manage any necessary employee training
    • Research, compile, implement, and manage employee benefits packages
    • Plan special events and outings
    • Mediate workplace conflicts
    • Manage payroll processes through Gusto
    • Make recommendations to better utilize team members
    • Create systems to encourage and reward referrals
    • Develop initiatives to improve employee job satisfaction
    • Solicit feedback and build systems to improve inter-team communications, to ensure that voices of our employees are being heard as we grow
    • Be a culture champion, and help infuse our company’s values and mission into everything we do
    • Put together compensation packages for new hires
    • Curate company-wide Notion documents and knowledge base related to HR
    • Handle certain administrative and compliance tasks (and/or set up protocols to delegate to assistant)

Requirements

    • 7+ years work experience, with at least 4+ years at a rapidly growing startup
    • Ability to quickly learn new technical industries
    • Excitement to be part of a meaningful movement that is bigger than the organization and excited to communicate this mission to the world
    • A bias for action and a preference to get things done
    • Excellent selling, interpersonal & communication skills
    • Strong HR functional expertise and a proven track record of building high-quality teams
    • Deep expertise in payroll, benefits, policies/procedures, bonus structures, performance management, onboarding/offboarding, labor and employment law, and team events.
    • Extremely comfortable working with, setting up, and troubleshooting online tools, such as Google Docs/Slides, Gusto, Slack, etc.
    • Experience with food tech, climate tech, biotech, or CPG is a plus, but not required.
