Senior Director, Information Technology

Fastly is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Director of IT to lead and scale our Help Desk, IT Systems Engineering and Administration teams, align the IT roadmap with the overall corporate strategy as we move into the next phase of growth, and empower our employees with the tools and technology they need to build a trustworthy internet. The Senior Director, IT is responsible for working with executive partners to align the overall strategy, organization, management, and execution of IT related security, services, products, processes, and procedures with our corporate goals. In order to optimize the resource allocation of the team and provide the best employee experience, you’ll be working with other leaders from across the organization to assess their IT needs and align the portfolio of IT services and roadmap, while deciding what should remain in-house and what can get outsourced to a managed service provider. You’ll use your powers of influence to implement new standards and operating procedures to ensure employees are empowered to do their best work. You’ll also be responsible for balancing short term needs with long term results, and ensuring projects adhere to budgets and schedules. 

As the leader of the IT organization, you’ll be tasked with streamlining our cloud-first operations and building a diverse and high-functioning team of technical professionals, setting expectations for the team while empowering them to create solutions and ensuring accountability. You’ll create a culture that manages risk, learns quickly, and focuses on the right outcomes.

What You'll Do

  • You will be responsible for leading and scaling an IT function that can support the continued global growth of Fastly.
  • Establish IT operations standard methodologies, procedures, tools and infrastructure that supports the needs of a fast growing company, embracing external partners where appropriate and enabling self-service for optimal employee experience. 
  • Through the management of the IT Steering committee, develop a technology roadmap for IT HelpDesk and the IT Systems and Operations teams and ensure organizational strategic alignment of that roadmap.
  • Work with leadership across the organization to identify business and technology needs to optimize the use of information technology.
  • Create a standard of excellence in IT services and technology by establishing, achieving, and improving departmental operational metrics, including CSAT ratings. 
  • Develop, manage, and track the IT department budget
  • Use your understanding of interdependencies between technology, operations, and business needs to drive innovation and create efficiencies
  • Use data to identify trends, drive decisions, and create a continuous improvement cycle
  • Provide direction, guidance, and training for IT staff

What We're Looking For

  • You have at least 12-15 years working experience in IT, with at least 6 years of  management, building diverse teams with collaborative and innovative cultures with deep familiarity of Service Delivery and Systems Development and Support. 
  • Demonstrable experience scaling IT teams in a fast growing business
  • Experience building and managing globally dispersed teams, including external service providers.
  • Experience implementing standard methodologies for ITSM, identity access management, endpoint/device management, knowledge and change management. 
  • A strong IT security and compliance mentality. 
  • Experience developing processes and procedures for IT Governance and regulatory compliance such as SOX.
  • Experience building collaboration and rapport within an organization with both technical and non-technical members
  • Superb communication skills, the ability to build a supportive and inclusive team culture. 
  • Strong background in ITSM and familiarity with frameworks such as ITIL and COBIT.

In accordance with applicable law, Fastly’s minimum base pay for this role if hired in Colorado is $233,000 per year. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Fastly's equity plan. Final offer amount will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by multiple factors, including years and depth of experience and expertise, location and other business considerations. Note that this role is available to candidates outside of Colorado and different minimum compensation may apply.
