Associate Editor, Video
If you have a passion for developing video content, experience working in video editing and animation, and a desire to create engaging, educational material for students, then Newsela’s editorial team could be a good fit for you. As an Associate Editor, you will be responsible for coming up with dynamic, visual solutions by curating, creating and editing videos for one of the most promising learning products in the K-12 education space. This position is first and foremost for an experienced video producer/editor, though you are also a project manager and enthusiastic collaborator with other members of the team. Your goal is to create and elevate Newsela’s world-class news, science, ELA, and social studies content for K-12 classrooms across the U.S. We value authentic content that creates opportunities for teachers to be culturally responsive, encourages students to think critically, and explains complex concepts with ease.
Why You’ll Love This Role:
This role allows you to help shape Newsela’s video style so that it adheres to our mission statement, which is Meaningful Learning for Every Student. You’ll brainstorm with your manager, other multimedia staffers, and members on the instructional content team around initiatives that can help enable our video content to support learning needs for teachers and students. Your work will directly contribute to ensuring educators are equipped with the content and tools necessary to deliver representative, culturally responsive instruction that is accessible and engaging for all learners. Also this material should be able to be measured with assessments (that you can help develop) to help deepen student understanding.
Why We’ll Love You:
You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have 5+ years of demonstrated video editing/production experience focused on news or the youth edutainment space. You have the ability to conceptualize original videos, collaborate with producer/script writer, source stock footage, and edit video pieces efficiently in the Adobe platform–specifically Premiere and After Effects. Being able to work with design software (InDesign, Photoshop, etc) and having experience shooting and lighting video interviews is also a plus. You understand the education landscape enough to be able apply your experience to it and can leverage your attention to detail and editorial judgement to deliver thoughtful, well-balanced video content that serves the needs of K-12 students. Your interpersonal skills are unmatched and you can make decisions with ease, helping us make thoughtful and clear judgment calls.
