The Role:

The FP&A Analyst, R&D, will serve as a key business partner to our product, technology, and learning leadership teams to ensure the financial objectives for the business are met. You will directly own all day to day budget and expense management for the R&D organization, and support the VP in financial planning, forecasting, reporting and analysis. You’ll design and create forecasting models to ensure we are managing expenses with a high degree of accuracy, and perform analysis to help guide the business on key decisions. Reporting to the Vice President of Financial Strategy & Operations, you’ll have valuable exposure to senior leadership and work closely with accounting and operational partners to ensure accurate information and reporting takes place to support the business. Additionally, you’ll support the build-out of monthly and quarterly reporting, and participate in process improvement initiatives to support our growth and efforts to scale as an FP&A team.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

In this role, you will be supporting the research and development teams that are building the products that fuel Newsela’s growth.  As a SaaS company in the fast-growing educational technology industry, Newsela will provide you with an invaluable opportunity to participate in the digital transformation of the K-12 education market. Additionally, you will be joining a very tight-knit FP&A team that is highly committed to building out a best-in-class operational and analytical function.  That means scaling as Newsela scales, including participating in the build-out of a best-in class cloud FP&A system and the operational models that support it.  Our vision is to enable the operating cadences and automated reporting that allow for deep analysis to occur to expand our impact on the business.  This role would also have significant exposure to executive leadership, with the opportunity for growth in supporting other areas of the business and contributing to our culture.  Finally, your work will help ensure the growth and impact of a mission-driven business that is transforming the way students learn through current, engaging learning content.

Why We’ll Love You:

You have 3+ years of FP&A experience, preferably in a high-growth SaaS environment supporting product and engineering departments. You have a keen understanding of financial close and forecasting processes, and have experience with internal software capitalization processes.  Additionally, you’re experienced in using sales and financial systems (Salesforce, Adaptive Insights, NetSuite, etc.), and have advanced skills in Excel. You are well-versed in financial modeling and budget management, with the ability to identify key variance drivers and create forecasting models to predict the future with accuracy. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders to ensure they have accurate reporting, and will partner with them to identify areas for analysis that can move the needle on business decisions. You have a track record of maintaining and improving business processes. You strive to partner across the organization to help add value to the business wherever possible. You are a trusted advisor with exceptional communication skills, able to translate complex financial concepts across a variety of audiences.  You are highly motivated, a team player, extremely detail-oriented and have a growth mindset.
