Senior Project Manager – Data Management

The Senior Project Manager for Data Management helps ensure that our data and database engineers are executing their work effectively, efficiently, and within acceptable deliverable timelines. This role will be critical to keeping our engineers’ work well planned, execution well organized, and deliverables well communicated to our leadership and data product management teams. This is a great opportunity to work with an amazing technical data team and facilitate our collective mission to deliver actionable datasets at appropriate levels of curation for innovation, actuarial, BI analyst, data scientist, and software application data customers. You are a passionate advocate for your stakeholders and will drive the deliverables to completion. You are a true owner of the data teams’ workload and are accountable to their effectiveness at delivering business value.

What you’d be doing:

  • Project management 
  • Be a valued partner that connects the work of the engineering teams to the Data Product Owners’ deliverables. Work closely with the Data Product Owner(s) to ensure alignment on deliverable timelines, capacity planning, and standard work package scoping.
  • Own the execution of data engineering and database engineering project management within an Agile execution framework (Kanban/Scrum/etc.)
  • Coordinate and manage data product related strategic projects and tactical deliverables in conjunction with senior executives 
  • Plan and lead regularly scheduled coordination sessions necessary to ensure clarity across the organization as it relates to product delivery and maintenance timelines 
  • Manage the alignment of data development projects related to our products with existing enterprise methods of project management and governance 
  • Assist in managing the overall intake and capacity management of data product related work 
  • Identify, scope, and execute projects (both strategic and tactical) designed to drive improvements to and creation of our data products 
  • Orchestrate enterprise change management related to new data products or data product changes 
  • Process Improvement 
  • Identify pain points throughout the data delivery lifecycle and proactively address these within Data Management 
  • Develop systems to ensure that the right level of leadership input is obtained for all process improvements 
  • Collaborate and coordinate with our existing project manager to improve processes, efficiency, and the overall effectiveness of our project management capabilities

    • We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Bachelor’s degree  
  • 3+ years of technical project management experience
  • 3+ years of experience working within or leading an Agile project management execution framework (Kanban/Scrum/etc.)
  • Experience working with Jira, SmartSheet, Confluence, or similar products 
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical and business items clearly and succinctly, both written and verbally 
  • Ability to work effectively across technical and business-oriented stakeholders 
  • Ability to learn new concepts quickly and apply skills learned on the job in a rapid and effective manner 
  • Solid problem-solving skills and able to reach logical, sound decisions and conclusions 
  • Excellent ability to coordinate people  
  • Ability to lead efforts with limited oversight 
  • High energy with a sense of urgency 

    • Ideal candidates will also have:

  • 2+ years of personal or commercial lines insurance experience
  • Agile certification(s)
  • Prior experience working with or as a data developer/engineer
